Trends come and they go but video marketing is here to stay! All those so-called experts that are claiming that this is just a trend passing by are wrong because we’re talking about a tool that can help you connect with your prospective clients or customers like no other. Investing in video is going to be big in 2016 with more than 90% businesses who claim they will maintain or increase their video marketing budgets.

Everybody and their mother are online at any given time, browsing through seemingly endless social media timelines and sharing videos. You may think that creating and advertising videos is too easy but there are mistakes out there that are just waiting to be made. Today we are going to talk about some of those common mistakes so that you can avoid them.

Low Quality Videos are a no-go

There is a big chance that lots of people will be making the first contact with your brand through videos you create, and you already know how important it is to make a great first impression. More than 60% consumers have said that they would hardly purchase a product after watching an explainer video that is bad. Even if your video marketing plan doesn’t include a huge budget that doesn’t mean you should decide against creating video content. There are a lot of video companies out there that provide quality service and videos for a fee that is more than reasonable. Keep your eyes open and do some window shopping!

Long videos won’t do you any good

People tend to avoid watching videos that are too long. Wistia did a research on this topic and the results are eye-opening: thirty-second videos maintain the view rate at more than 80% and it drops below the 45% mark for videos that are longer than five minutes. Your call to action will probably appear at the end of the video so if people leave before seeing the whole video you won’t be able to deliver your message. Of course, there are use cases which make good exceptions to this rule. How-to videos and knowledge videos in general can be longer because they are expected to provide more detail and more information. This is a great way to go into depth about your special area of expertise because your audience wants to watch a video that is helpful.

A clear message is the key

The golden rule of video marketing is not to over complicate your message. A simple video is a good video. Your prospective audience is going to be turned off by too many features and messages. Explainer videos are great for educating the audience and they encourage more sales but you have to make sure that you speak in the same language as your audience, a language that resonates with them and that they understand. Here’s a fun fact: 77 percent of consumers have been convinced to buy a product after watching a video about it! Now that’s what I call potential!

Even the best video isn’t worth a dime without promotion

So you’ve got your hands on that final version of your video and it knocked your socks right off! Just place it on the landing page and forget about it? No! You have to put some elbow grease into promoting it because otherwise you won’t get the results you were looking for. Not sure how to do that? Here are some great ideas: create some call to action banners to direct more traffic to the video, write a video summary, social sharing buttons are great for promotion, post it on your social media pages…

And that’s all for today! Keeping these simple and straightforward tips on your mind will help you go a long way with your video marketing efforts.
